There is more information shared online about treating oily skin than dry skin. This is because oily skin  is more common among people. One in three people has dry skin, so this skintype should be in the spotlight more often! Dryness of the skin can happen to anyone; the causes can be: when living in a cold climate, taking a hot shower and even when using harsh products on your skin.

A skin infection can develop when the skin dries out excessively. Completly obviating  dry skin is impossible.
But you can learn how to deal with it to prevent an infection! Dry skin is common by people of middle age (or above), people from the Mediterranean and with a tinted/dark complexion, as well as by people with a vitamin deficiency and certain skin conditions.

Three tips to prevent dry skin

Moisten
Moisturizing the skin prevents excessieve oily or flaky skin, this also helps to prevent acne. It is important to moisturize your face immediately after showering, as this will help to seal and lock the space between your skin cells, while your skin is still damp.

Moisten sensitive parts
Do not forget to partially moisten the area under the eyes and neck!
This reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Limit your shower time
Use warm water in the shower up to 10 minutes. Warm showers and soap can irritate the skin. Extra hot water strips the skin’s natural oils. Severe dryness can cause too much oil production for those with oily skin, leading to acne.
In the cold days this can cause itchy skin, extreme dryness and flaking.
